Type 2 Wavy 2A Wavy 2B Wavy 2C

Wavy hair is classified as a 2. Dependent on how wavy it is, it is split between A, B and C, A being closest to straight. Thick S-shaped waves combined with curls you have the best of both worlds, it's easy to wear straight and just as easy to embrace the curl pattern, boasting a natural beachy wave which so many people are trying to achieve, life is literally a beach, so let us help you embrace it proudly.

Wavy hair tip: Because wavy hair is more prone to frizz, anti-frizz and humidity protective products are key for creating and keeping gorgeous waves. Lack of volume and definition means that products will easily weigh them down causing your waves to become straight so try using lighter styling defining products and also avoid keeping your fingers out of wavy hair, the more you run your fingers through the more frizz you may experience.

Type 3 Curly 3A Curly 3B Curly 3C

Type 3 curly hair ranges between a light curl to tight curly tendrils and usually have a combination of textures, with more height and volume at the root than type 2s. If you pull a strand of a type 3 you will notice it has a definite S shape or even a Z on some occasions, however there is a definite curl pattern with or without styling products. Lack of proper care and healthy cuts render dull curls.

Curly hair tip: Curly hair is the most temperamental, applying too much product will cause weighed down/greasy looking curls and apply too little and you may experience a frizz ball! The key to guaranteeing effortless, frizz free curls is the application of styling product applied, always try to cleanse, condition and moisturise your curls section by section. Remember hydration and moisture is key.

Type 4 Kinky 4A Kinky 4B Kinky 4C

Type 4 Kinky hair is fine and thin or wiry and coarse with densely packed coils which may seem robust, but it’s actually the most fragile hair texture with fewest cuticle layers to protect it from dryness, the main priority is to maintain moisture, avoid tangles and counteract shrinkage. There is a misconception that this hair type does not grow, well it definitely does just as quick as any other hair type! With the right care, treatments and knowledge we will show you that this is definitely a misconception.

Kinky hair tip: Kinky hair is dry by nature and breaks easily, it needs added moisture daily. The key to keeping these natural locks beautiful, healthy and shiny is to moisturise daily using a creamy, sulphate free moisturising cleanser, followed by a hydrating rich cream conditioner and weekly moisture based hydrating treatments. Avoid mineral and petrolatum oils and heavy waxes.

Can you get your hair curly at a salon?

Yes, you can get your hair curly at a salon. There are two main ways to do this:

Perming: This is a chemical process that changes the structure of your hair so that it curls. Perms can last for several months.
Temporary curling: This is a non-chemical process that uses heat or rollers to create curls. Temporary curls will usually last for one or two days.

The best option for you will be determined by your hair type, preferred curl pattern, and lifestyle. A perm is a good option if you want curls that will endure for several months. Perms, on the other hand, can be damaging to your hair, so talk to your stylist about the risks and advantages before getting one. Temporary curling is a good alternative if you simply want curls for a special occasion. Although less harmful than perming, the curls will not last as long.

Can any hairdresser cut curly hair?

Not all hairdressers are trained to cut curly hair. Curly hair is more delicate and prone to frizz than straight hair, so it requires a special set of skills to cut it properly. If you have curly hair, it is important to find a hairdresser who is familiar with curly hair techniques. You can ask your friends and family for recommendations, or you can search online for salons that specialize in curly hair.

Should curly hair be layered or one length?

Whether curly hair should be layered or maintained at one length depends on various factors, including hair texture, density, and personal preferences. Layering can help reduce bulk, add dimension, and enhance natural curls by removing weight and allowing for better shape and movement. However, one-length cuts can also work well for curly hair, providing a uniform look and maximising curl definition. Ultimately, the decision should consider individual hair characteristics and desired style outcomes, as both layering and one-length cuts can be flattering for curly hair when executed skillfully by a knowledgeable hairstylist.

How often should you cut curly hair?

The frequency of cutting curly hair depends on individual factors such as hair type, length, and desired style. Generally, it's recommended to trim curly hair every 8 to 12 weeks to maintain shape, manage split ends, and promote healthy growth. However, some individuals with slower hair growth or specific styling preferences may opt for longer intervals between cuts, while others may benefit from more frequent trims to prevent excessive split ends and maintain a desired shape. Regular communication with a trusted hairstylist can help determine the optimal cutting schedule based on the unique needs of one's curly hair.
